Learn

We have two goals for the learn module — that users would learn about Deaf Culture and Kingdom Culture. Here are some examples:

In Deaf Culture, one gets attention by tapping a shoulder, waving, stomping on a responsive floor, or blinking lights. Calling a name doesn’t work if the person who bears that name can’t hear the call.

In Kingdom Culture, we seek to put the needs of others above our own and trust God to provide what we need. The world at large doesn’t generally operate with this kind of love toward strangers and opponents.

In Deaf Culture, there are forms of poetry and rhyme that operate on a visual level. Favorites are using the same handshape for an entire expression, or sequential handshapes like A-B-C or 1-2-3.

In Kingdom Culture, we do our best to express truth and love. We limit certain expressions that are common in the world at large, because they don’t align with the character of Jesus, our model and Lord.

There are situations where the two cultures mesh together, and other situations where one has to navigate life between apparently opposing goals. Such is life in our world, and we want to provide supportive tools so that all may succeed — for the glory of God and the good of our communities.
